PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
