Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one match at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his initial title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

Victory also means Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a title is particularly special," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His retrieving play style and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was over.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an better service.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent defended four early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he clinched the title with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
